Jackpot Grows With Two Winning Tickets Sold In Kentucky
As announced Thursday, there was no grand prize winning Powerball Ticket, but two $50,000 winning tickets were sold in Kentucky. One was purchased in London and the other in Florence. Each matched four numbers plus the Powerball number. The jackpot for Saturday continues to grow and an estimated $1.7 Billion, which is the third largest in the game's history. The estimated cash option is over $770 Million.

Head-On Collision Kills Woman On WK Parkway
Kentucky State Police and the Grayson County Sheriff’s Department responded following a fatal two-vehicle wreck on Western Kentucky Parkway Thursday morning. The head-on collision happened near mile marker 117 between Leitchfield and Elizabethtown. Preliminary investigation indicates a 2017 Honda Civic, driven by 30-year-old Francisco Tziquin, of Texas, was traveling westbound on the Western Kentucky Parkway when, for unknown reasons, he crossed the median and struck an eastbound 2008 Lincoln MKZ, driven by 25-year old Isaac Hearn, of Leitchfield. A female adult passenger in Tziquin’s car was pronounced deceased at the scene. Two other juvenile passengers in the car were transported to Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville for serious physical injuries. Hearn was taken to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center for serious physical injuries. Tziquin was arrested and charged for leaving the scene and failure to render aid. He is booked at Grayson County Detention Center. Circumstances of his leaving the scene are not clearly defined by the state police preliminary investigation report.

Vehicle Collision Kills Cow
The Barren County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a vehicle collision that resulted in fatal injuries to a cow. Late Saturday or early Sunday, the vehicle ran through a fence along Renfro Road near Haywood before striking the animal. The vehicle continued through the fence and back onto the road. A report from the Barren County Sheriff's Department indicates the vehicle might be a red or silver Pontiac as pieces of the vehicle were found at the scene. The property owner is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of a suspect. Martin Exits Farmers RECC Board After 30 Years Of Service
Hart County resident C.F. Martin, Jr. has retired from the Farmers RECC board. He has spent the past 30 years as a representative for District II. A press release from the cooperative says Martin's leadership helped shape many of the initiatives and policies that continue to benefit the cooperative and its members today. He served as chairman of the board twice and also served as the Farmers RECC representative on the Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperatives’ Board of Directors and two years on the East Kentucky Power Cooperatives Board of Directors among his many accolades.
SCRTC Ballots Ready To Be Mailed For Trustee Election
South Central Rural Telecommunications Cooperative is scheduled to mail ballots for the upcoming trustee election to member customers in District Two and District Five on Friday. District Two encompasses Canmer and Horse Cave exchanges. District Five is comprised of Temple Hill and Glasgow Exchanges. Ballots must be signed and dated to be counted and are due September 20th. Three arrested on kidnapping charges in Hart County
Three people face kidnapping charges after a weekend arrest in Hart County. Kentucky State Police was contacted Saturday afternoon by Louisville Metro Police for assistance in locating 40-year-old Michael Reynolds and 58-year-old David Fields, both of Magnolia. These two men allegedly traveled to Louisville, unlawfully entered a residence, forcefully took a female child after David Fields assaulted the child's mother, and then brought the child to Hart County. Police say the two men met with a relative of the child, identified as 66-year-old Shirlie Fields of Magnolia and then handed the child off. Troopers responded and interviewed Shirlie Fields, who confirmed she had picked the child up from both men. Police say she was aware of the child being taken from Louisville. A trooper on-scene recovered the child. All three adults involved were arrested and booked at Hart County Jail. Michael Reynolds is charged with complicity to custodial interference, along with a Jefferson County warrant for kidnapping a minor, first-degree burglary and fourth-degree domestic assault with minor injury. David Fields is charged by warrant for first-degree burglary, kidnapping of a minor and fourth-degree domestic assault with minor injury. Both remain booked at the jail. Shirlie Fields is charged with custodial interference and failure to use child restraint device in a vehicle. She was released from jail on Tuesday.

Motorcyclist struck by pickup
A Magnolia man was involved with a crash that killed a man on a motorcycle Friday in Russell County. State police responded just before 9pm to the location on KY 379 where 55-year-old William Miller of Russell Springs was stopped in the road on his Honda Shadow Motorcycle for an unknown reason. A Ram 2500 pickup was traveling north, driven by 33-year-old Daniel Turner of Magnolia. With limited visibility due to a number of factors, Turner was unable to see Miller before colliding with the rear of the motorcycle. Miller was taken to Russell County Hospital where he died from resulting injuries. Turner was not physically injured. Investigation of the incident continues. There is no indication of any contributing factor by Turner in the crash according to the preliminary Kentucky State Police Report.

Roundabout Construction Begins Next Week In Greensburg
Work is scheduled to begin next week on a project to make improvements between Greensburg and Campbellsville on US 68 in Green and Taylor Counties. The first portion of the project to be constructed is a roundabout at the intersection of US 68 and KY 61 on the northeast side of Greensburg. This intersection has experienced 32 crashes, 11 injuries and a fatality in the last 5 years alone. The roundabout is expected to reduce the number of serious crashes substantially in addition to improving traffic flow. Excavation starts September 8th. The initial phase of construction will have little impact on traffic. The second phase will restrict left turns at the intersection from all approaches and through movements from KY 61 (Hodgenville Road) and KY 3535 (Industrial Park Road), with a 60-day window to complete that portion of the project. The second phase is expected to begin the second half of September through October and into November. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is working with local officials on alternate routes to navigate around these restrictions. Detailed detour information will be released before moving into the second phase of construction. The larger portion of the US 68 corridor project to widen and create a 2+1 configuration (similar to US 68 between Campbellsville and Lebanon or KY 55 between Campbellsville and Columbia) will begin next year and includes a roundabout on the Campbellsville end at KY 323/West Main Street. The completion date of the entire project from Greensburg to Campbellsville is September 1st, 2026.

New Hart County Board Of Education Member Seated
A new Hart County Board of Education member has been appointed. Cub Run resident, Thomas Hockensmith, was sworn on August 27th and will fill the District #5 seat previously held by Tyler Holthouser, who resigned in July. Hockensmith attended Cub Run Elementary School and graduated from Hart County High School in 2006. He will serve (as appointed by the board) until a special election is held in November. That election will be for the remaining two years of the term to put the seat back on a regular election cycle.

BOSK Union Vote In Limbo
Disputed ballots are putting results of a unionization election in limbo at BlueOval-SK. Early Thursday, United Auto Workers made claims for a slim-margin victory at the battery park after the two-day vote ended on Wednesday. But the outcome may depend on 41 ballots challenged to be invalid. The count is 526 to unionize and 515 against, plus the 41 in contention. The National Labor Relations Board administered the election and will be reviewing and deciding on allowing the ballots being challenged. Those eligible to vote in the union election included all full-time and part-time production and maintenance workers employed at BlueOval SK's-Glendale facility during the payroll period ending July 26. Challenged ballots could include safety and emergency response staff at the plant. Their eligibility was not determined when the NLRB directed the election. They were told they could vote but their ballots would be challenged with their eligibility resolved afterward, the NLRB said before the election. A decision date for the National Labor Relations Board is not clear.

Local Veteran Among Honor Flight Attendees
A Hart County man is among veterans from across the state who traveled to Washington, DC this past weekend as part of Honor Flight Kentucky. Luther Goldsmith and 64 other service men and women were able to spend time at veteran memorials made in their honor and see names of those with whom they served. Honor Flight provided breakfast, lunch and dinner for the group. Upon their return, around 1,000 people were in attendance at Bluegrass Airport to welcome them home, lined along a hallway with American Flags, signs and banners. Mr. Goldsmith described the day as "perfect in every way." He said the experience was humbling, emotional and wonderful to share with other veterans. He added, “it was such an honor to be selected and that it something every veteran should get to experience”. Honor Flights were originally intended for World War II veterans to have the opportunity to see Washington, D.C.’s many memorials, specifically the World War II memorial on the National Mall. Now that nearly all World War II veterans have passed away, thousands of Vietnam and Korea era veterans are honored for their service. Touchstone Energy has been sponsoring an Honor Flight for Kentucky Veterans since 2010. A Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Spokesperson says celebrating the service of these veterans is the mission of the Honor Flight every year.

July County-By-County Unemployment Numbers Released
Unemployment in Hart County increased from June to July, but remains slightly lower than a year ago. According to figures released by the Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet, the county's July unemployment rate is 5.6% up from 4.8% in June. In July 2024, Hart County's Unemployment Rate was 6%. The same trend for a slight monthly increase with a annual comparison decrease is observed in neighboring counties, as well. LaRue and Metcalfe Counties are at 5.4% and 5.5%, respectively, followed by Hardin County at 5.9%, Barren County at 6%, Green County at 6.3%, Edmonson County at 6.6% and Grayson County at 6.8%. Across the commonwealth, Woodford county has the lowest number at 4.5%, while Martin County has the highest number at 10.8%. The statewide rate is 5.6% while the national rate is 4.6% unemployment. These rates are not seasonally adjusted. Raw unemployment figures typically see an increase this time of year with many seasonal workers wrapping up summer jobs.

Business Destroyed By Fire
Fire destroyed a Green County business Monday evening. Firefighters were called to Murray's Auto on Hodgenville Road just before 7pm. Upon arrival, fire was observed one one end of the structure with heavy smoke and heat throughout the rest of the structure. Within minutes, the building was fully engulfed. Firefighters worked to protect an adjacent residence, which sustained some siding heat damage. The fire was extinguished and crews cleared the scene around 9:30. Six departments responded to the fire.

Fiscal Court Recap
Hart County Fiscal Court met Tuesday morning. In the jail report, Deputy Jailer Paul Gentry informed the court 136 inmates are currently being held at the facility. In the sheriff's department report, Sheriff Jeff Wilson told the court his department has acquired new body armor and carriers, and provided personnel training updates. The court approved a measure to pay bills via Automated Clearing House (ACH) transfers and gave approval for Judge Executive Joe Choate to sign an interlocal agreement with Barren and Allen Counties to promote and support agricultural development in the region and to apply for grant funding for the newly formed Barren County Consortium. The court appointed Matt Dennison to the consortium board. The library tax was set at 9.1% and the ambulance tax was set at 6.9%, which is unchanged for both from the previous year. The court approved removing Coral Linder and Elaine Diggs from the Solid Waste Board and added Daniel Hawkins and Ethan Moore to the Solid Waste Board. Carolyn Short and Andrew Houk were reappointed to the Hart County Library Board. The court approved the $12,000 purchase of land from Owen Harp, which is located behind the county road maintenance facility. The next meeting of Hart County Fiscal Court will be September 9th.

Vote To Unionize Begins For BOSK Workers
Around 1,500 workers at Glendale's BlueOval-SK battery plant can begin voting on unionization. United Auto Workers says the plant is currently the only battery production plant associated with "the big-three" automakers that is non-union. A release says votes will be counted beginning Wednesday. A rally to unionize was announced last November, after an estimated two-thirds of those hired so far signed cards expressing union interest. Many of those workers cite job security as their top reason for supporting unionization. When the announcement was made last fall, a BlueOval-SK spokesperson said the company desires to maintain a direct relationship with employees.

Hart County man arrested for sex crimes involving a child
A Hart County man is facing charges for sex crimes involving a child. The Hart County Sheriff's Department arrested 25-year-old Christopher Hawkins last Tuesday at his home near Monroe after a tip reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children resulted in the Kentucky Attorney General's Office confirming Hawkins used his phone and an app in late June from his residence to upload a video depicting a child in a sexual manner. A citation indicates he admitted to sexual contact with the child. Christopher Hawkins is booked at Hart County Jail for first-degree rape of a victim under 12, distribution of material portraying a minor in a sexual performance and use of a minor in a sex performance. He is also currently charged with failure to appear. His combined bond remains listed at $154,300.

Trooper Island Corvette Raffle Winner Is From Hart County
The winner of the 2025 Kentucky State Police Trooper Island Camp raffle drawing is from right here in Hart County. Sarah Alvey's ticket was drawn at the conclusion of the Kentucky State Fair on Sunday in Louisville. Nearly 42,000 tickets were sold at $10 each for this year's raffle. The prize being a new Stingray Corvette or $50,000. A release from state police says this was the highest total of tickets ever sold for the Trooper Island Camp benefit. Alvey says she is choosing the Corvette.

Man Arrested After Intentionally Using Skid Steer To Flip Vehicles And Damage Property
A partner of a Cave City Tourist Attraction is jailed after a bizarre incident Saturday. Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to Treasure Trove Park where 76-year-old Roy Eugene Spiker began operating a skid steer, flipping vehicles and damaging property. Police say a civil dispute regarding operation of the business fueled the described act of rage in which a damage estimate is reported at $750,000. Spiker is booked at Barren County Detention Center on three counts of criminal mischief and eight counts wanton endangerment. His bond is set at $200,000. He appears in court today.

Focus On The Family Founder Dies
For years, Dr. James Dobson was heard daily here on WLOC. Dobson hosted "Focus on the Family," a radio show encouraging good parenting and promoting family values. He passed away Thursday at the age of 89. Dobson founded the Focus on the Family Ministry in 1977, which had more than 1,000 employees at its peak. He left the radio show portion of the ministry in 2010, naming Jim Daly to take over the broadcast. Daly soon faced criticism by many conservatives for communicating a softened view on many hot-button issues compared to those expressed by Dr. Dobson.

Cracker Barrel Facing Heavy Backlash Over Logo Change
After unveiling a modified logo on Tuesday, Cracker Barrel is taking on harsh criticisms from patrons as the publicly traded company's stock dropped nearly 17% of its overall value this week. The day-to-day drop for Thursday was 12%. The restaurant chain and country store headquartered just south of here in Lebanon, Tennessee, has about 660 locations nationwide with Cave City, Bowling Green and Elizabethtown in our region of Kentucky. With a trimmed menu leaving loyal customers without many of their former "usuals" and a re-decorated atmosphere that has cut away at their iconic image, the logo change is the latest in series of changes that seem to aim at distancing the restaurant today from its cultural heritage. While the backlash is clearly observed in the media and on social media, current Cracker Barrel CEO Julie Felss Masino said "people like what we're doing." She made the statement Tuesday on ABC's "Good Morning America". She says Cracker Barrel needs to feel like the Cracker Barrel for today and tomorrow, leaving some loyal customers in disagreement given the fact the restaurant chain has been built heavily on nostalgia.

Robbin Lane Paving Thursday And Friday
Motorists who will be traveling on Robbin Lane in northern Hart County should be aware of paving work scheduled for today and Friday. Crews will be laying asphalt along the route parallel to Nolin Lake just off of KY 88. Short delays will be possible as flaggers direct traffic around paving operations. Motorists should be prepared to stop and pay close attention to work zone signs and directions.

Wingstop Coming To Glasgow
A new restaurant is confirmed to be locating in Glasgow. Wingstop is expected to occupy a currently vacant space between Yamato Japanese Restaurant and Azul Tequila Mexican Restaurant in the strip mall in front of Walmart. The well-known chicken wings chain has posted job openings for the new location, including a position for general manager of the Glasgow location with a salary of $50,000+ annually. A timetable for opening is not yet available.

State Police Looking For Wanted Man
Kentucky State Police is searching for a man in connection with a reported burglary. KSP investigators say 45-year-old Willie Albany is wanted on a bond violation for second-degree burglary, fourth-degree assault and unlawful imprisonment. Albany is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, 200 pounds and bald with brown eyes. His last known location was in the Glasgow area. New Basketball Coach Announced At Caverna
Caverna High School has a new head boys basketball coach. The school made the announcement Monday, welcoming Josh Pittman to the sideline. Pittman comes from Success Academy in New York, where he compiled a 44-11 record. He has also coached at Manhattan College, Berry College and Center College, with multiple conference titles and NCAA Tournament appearances. Caverna's boys basketball team looks to build on a 17-13 finish from a year ago, when they made a 5th Region semi-finals appearance.

Battery Production Begins At BlueOval-SK
Production of electric vehicle batteries has officially started with the first battery rolling off the line at the BlueOval SK Battery Park in Glendale. The roll out was celebrated Tuesday. The facility marks the largest build of its type in state history, with the joint venture between Ford and SK costing $5.8 billion. The partnership was announced in 2021. Around 1,500 employees have been hired out of the 5,000 originally touted. Rumors have been swirling following a Wall Street Journal article earlier this year that Nissan might be working with BlueOval SK to occupy the second building on the Glendale site. No official announcements of another tenant have been made. Ford has recently re-upped its commitment to the EV market announcing a new and more affordable model, even though cooled-off sales of electrics continue across the board.

Resurfacing Work Begins With Base Failure Repairs
Roadwork begins today in preparation for resurfacing a portion of KY 1391 (Lone Star Road) and KY 720 (Flint Hill Road) in Northern Hart and Southern Hardin Counties. Over the next few days, crews will be digging out and repairing road base failures. Once complete, the repairs must set for a week, then asphalt paving can begin. Lone Star Road will be resurfaced from just north of Bonnieville to KY 224 (Millerstown Road). Flint Hill Road will be resurfaced from Sonora to about six-and-a-half miles west town. Motorists are reminded to slow down on these routes and anticipate work crews. Flaggers will direct traffic around base-failure and paving operations. Work on these routes should be complete in around two weeks.

Runaway Juveniles Arrested After Stealing A Vehicle
Police responded to Life Connection on KY 357 at Buds Lake Road in LaRue County on Saturday, following two separate reports of runaway juveniles. Deputies canvassed the area, in search of four runaways, locating two of them. The other two fled the immediate area. Just after midnight Sunday, LaRue County 911 received a call of a vehicle break-in around Magnolia along US 31E. A resident sitting on his porch observed interior lights of the vehicle and saw two individuals inside. The pair used a gun they found inside the vehicle to demand the property owner retreat inside his house. The pair then fled into a nearby cornfield where they fired the gun at the house. Police were able to confirm these suspects as the remaining runaways. A search of the area was conducted, but they were not found. Around 7am Sunday, another call to dispatch from the Magnolia area stated a vehicle was missing. The suspects were found Sunday morning and arrested in Marshal County. There were no reports of injuries associated with the incident.

Cave City Pursuit And Arrest
A man initially observed speeding is facing multiple charges after a pursuit in Cave City. Police clocked the vehicle traveling 83 in a 55 zone along KY 90 on Wednesday. Upon initiating a traffic stop, 26-year-old William Beard of Glasgow continued to accelerate, reaching a speed of over 120 while passing multiple vehicles heading into oncoming traffic. Beard turned onto US 31W where he was stopped due to congested traffic resulting from roadwork. Officers ordered Beard out of the vehicle at gunpoint and placed him under arrest. Police say Beard fled because his license was suspended and he didn’t want to go to jail. Beard is booked at Barren County Detention Center on charges of speeding 26 miles per hour or greater over the speed limit, reckless driving, operating on a suspended or revoked operators license, possession of marijuana and fleeing police in a motor vehicle. His bond is listed at $7500 and he appears in court today.

Woman Arrested For Setting Clothes On Fire In Store
A woman is jailed and charged with arson of an Elizabethtown consignment store. Emergency responders were called to Once Upon a Child Consignment along North Dixie Avenue Thursday afternoon. The store manager told police the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Shelli Davis of Louisville, entered the business and began setting clothes on fire and attempted to take items as she left. Elizabethtown Police located and arrested Davis. She is booked at Hardin County Detention Center for first-degree arson, second-degree criminal mischief and theft. Her bond is listed at $25,000.

Convenient Store Robbery In Glasgow
Valero on the corner of West Cherry Street and North Race Street opposite Garcias Mexican Grill in Glasgow was robbed at gunpoint Thursday afternoon. Glasgow Police is searching for the unidentified suspect who appears to be completely covered by black articles of clothing and fully tinted glasses. The incident happened around 2:40pm. No physical injures are reported. While the photograph posted on the Glasgow Police Department's Facebook Page provides little chance of identification, it could still lead to tips from the general public who might have noticed anyone suspicious in the area at the time. Police did not disclose if the suspect fled on foot or in a vehicle. Anyone who may have noticed a person wearing such clothing Thursday afternoon or has any other information which might help with the case is asked to contact Glasgow Police at 270-651-5151.

Two Busses Collide In Leitchfield, Injuring One Student
A school bus rear ended another bus Thursday afternoon in Leitchfield. The incident happened just before 1pm on US 62 while both busses were transporting students to Byrd Tool for class. According to statements from Leitchfield Police, the trailing buss experienced a braking issue and was unable to stop. One student received a minor injury to the face and was taken to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center for treatment. No other physical injuries are reported.

New Officer Joins Munfordville Police
Munfordville has a new police academy graduate. With last week's graduation of Class 560 from the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice in Richmond, Justin Dial joins the department. Justin and his 32 classmates received over 800 hours of training during the 20-week course at the training center in Richmond. Locally, Hunter Seiler is also among graduates of Class 560. Hunter is now on the force with Glasgow Police.

Woman Dies After Crash On Shrewsbury Road
A Leitchfield woman died after a crash last Friday on KY 187 (Shrewsbury Road) in Grayson County. The single vehicle collision happened just after 7am in the 3700 block. Preliminary investigation shows 59-year-old Mary Haynes was traveling north in an SUV and crossed the southbound lane before running into a ditch. The vehicle overturned and impacted a culvert before coming to rest upside down. Haynes was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown around in the vehicle, according to statements from the Grayson County Sheriff's Department.

70-Year-Old Woman Beaten By 20-Year-Old Using A Bat
A 70-year-old woman was seriously injured in Grayson County after being assaulted by a 20-year-old male relative over the weekend. Statements from the Grayson County Sheriff's Department indicate Dalton Russell struck the victim several times, causing multiple bleeding injuries and a possible broken leg and arm. Russell allegedly used a bat to hit the victim during the incident. She was taken to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center for treatment. Dalton Russell is described as intoxicated during the assault. He is jailed at Grayson County Detention Center with no bond currently listed.

Hart County Fiscal Court Recap
Hart County Fiscal Court met Tuesday in the Hart County Judicial Center. At the beginning of the meeting, Judge Executive Joe Choate said this is the first time fiscal court has held a session in the 18-year-old judicial center. He said the original bonding term will expire within the next couple of years, with the county taking possession of the judicial center, which is currently owned by the Administrative Office of the Courts. In departmental reports, Jailer Israel Bergenson says there are 128 inmates currently in the facility. Sheriff Jeff Wilson says the recent surplus auction yielded just over $20,000. In the road report, Supervisor Kelly Rosser says the third mowing cycle is currently underway along with chip sealing and paving of scheduled roads. Animal Shelter Director Tony Roberts says an agreement has been signed with the Hart County Veterans Committee, for the new Animal Haven. He says title work is wrapping up and should allow for a groundbreaking around the end of August or early September. The court approved changing the name of East Fork Possum Hollow Road to J. W. Wilkerson Road to minimize confusion for emergency response. The court also approved the 2025 Emergency Operations Plan. The 2025 tax rate was approved. The county will use what is known as the compensating rate, which sets taxes at 9.4% down from 9.5%. Judge Choate notes property values have increased. The court accepted their flex fund disbursement from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. Hart County will be receiving $302,763 for road resurfacing. Audit reports of Hart County Solid Waste and the Sheriff's Department were accepted before the court went into closed session for personnel discussion. When court members returned, three road department hires were approved. The next Hart County Fiscal Court Meeting will be held August 26th.

Motorcycle Crash Seriously Injures Man
Another serious motorcycle crash in Barren County occurred Tuesday. A report from police identifies the motorcycle operator as Jody Glass, who was headed east along West Main Street on a 2017 Harley-Davidson, when a 2016 Ford Fusion, driven by Misty Logsdon, attempted a left turn from Shane Drive onto West Main. The two vehicles collided, seriously injuring Glass. He was transported from the scene by Barren-Metcalfe EMS and later airlifted to TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville. Glass was not wearing a helmet. No other physical injuries are reported from the incident. This marks the second serious injury collision involving a motorcycle in the Greater Glasgow area in the past week. A Glasgow native from Campbellsville was killed Friday in a motorcycle collision in Taylor County near Green River Lake State Park.

Monday City Council Meeting Recaps
At Munfordville City Council's Monday afternoon meeting, a 1st reading passed for an ordinance regulating the location of trailers within city limits, along with a 1st reading for an ordinance amending the business license tax resolution. The council approved surplus items for sale and departmental reports were given. The next meeting of Munfordville City Council will be Thursday, September 11th.
At Horse Cave City Council's Monday evening meeting, a second reading was passed to amend the 2024-2025 budget to reflect actual income and expenses for the fiscal year. Departmental reports were given. Mayor Randall Curry's statements included a recap of the opening for the bypass connecting US 31W and KY 218. The mayor also announced the Hart County Local Emergency Planning meeting will be held at the Hart County Board of Education Office on Thursday, August 28th at 5:30pm.

Lane closures on 31W in Munfordville
Lane closures on US 31W in Munfordville are expected to impact traffic this week. The rotation of routine inspections arrives on the bridge over Green River beginning Monday, August 11th. Inspection will require varying traffic patterns as crews work their way across the bridge through Thursday. Lane closures will start at 7am Monday and Tuesday, and then at 8:30am Wednesday and Thursday, to allow peak morning traffic to pass with the beginning of school. Closures each day may last through 6pm. Work schedules may be affected by unfavorable weather. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Officials say they understand lane closures over such a vital connection can seem untimely and inconvenient, but they are necessary to assure a safe and efficient transportation infrastructure. Flaggers will be conducting alternating one-way traffic around work crews. Motorists should play close attention to work zone directions, be prepared to stop and plan for the anticipated short delay in passing over the bridge.

Locals Recognized For Land Conservation Efforts
A northern Hart County Father and Son duo, Randy and John Seymour, who own Riders Mill Farms and Roundstone Native Seed, are the recipients of the 2025 Kentucky Leopold Conservation Award. “Some of the world’s best conservationists are farmers,” Agriculture Commissioner Jonathan Shell said. “This award is given to those who show the great stewardship for our agricultural lands." Randy and John were presented with the award at the Kentucky Association of Conservation Districts’ Annual Convention on Tuesday. Along with the honor, they received $10,000.

Cave City Council Appoints Replacement Member
Following the June 27th resignation letter of Brandon Wright citing ongoing health concerns, Cave City Council has appointed a replacement. In a special-called meeting on Wednesday, Andrew Bagshaw was selected to fill the vacant council member seat. Bagshaw received a majority three of five votes with the other two going to Jamie Burnett, who was also nominated for consideration. The appointment is the third in as many years for Cave City. In what has been a recurring theme among some local city governments, Horse Cave and Munfordville have also been faced with replacing council members for various reasons over the past year. The next regularly scheduled meeting of Cave City Council will take place Monday.

Man In US Illegally Arrested For Sex Crimes Against A Juvenile
A man the US Marshal's Office says is in the US illegally has been arrested in Grayson County for alleged sex crimes with a juvenile victim. Marshals and Grayson County Sheriff's Department officials located 45-year-old Juan Chavez-Trevizo, a Mexican national, at a residence in Leitchfield Wednesday. He is charged with three counts of rape, two counts of molestation of a child under the age of 13, four counts of molestation of a child with controlled supervision of the victim and one count of indecent behavior with a child under the age of 13. Chavez-Trevizo is jailed at Grayson County Detention Center and awaits extradition.

Kentucky State Police Looking For Man Wanted In Sex Crimes Case
Kentucky State Police Post 15 in Columbia is asking for public assistance in locating a male suspect involved in a sex crimes case. The agency reports 61-year-old Eugene Wilson has former addresses in Edmonton and in Lake Placid, Florida. He is wanted for sodomy and sexual abuse. Wilson is described as 6'-3" and bald with blue eyes along with a tattoo on his left shoulder. New Kentucky Area Code Doesn't Directly Affect 270 Customers
You might have heard about Kentucky getting a new area code for phone numbers but it won't directly affect those of us in the 270 portion of the state. The new area will be overlaid on the existing 502 portion of the state. The public service commission says the 502 portion of the North America Numbering Plan will run out of numbers in mid-to-late 2027 based on current usage. The new three-digit code has not been confirmed, but is expected to be revealed within the next couple of weeks. With an overlay, existing 502 area code users will not have to shift area codes as in previous additions in the state. As a history lesson in area code implementation, Hart and Surrounding Counties were under 502 until 1999, when 270 was zoned for the western half of the state. Until then, residents could use seven-digit dialing except for long-distance calls. When 270 came along, so did 10-digit dialing. Kentucky's other original area code, 606 for the eastern portion of the state, was similarly split the same year with the addition of 859 for Lexington and the Bluegrass region. A lesser-known area code of 364 was the first overlay put in place. It was implemented over the 270 area code in 2014.

I-65 Partially Blocked Tuesday Evening After Northbound Crash
Emergency responders were called to a crash along I-65 in Barren County just after 5:00 Tuesday evening. Northbound was reduced to one lane for about an hour after a truck with a trailer flipped. No serious injuries were included in the preliminary incident report. Investigation of the wreck continues.

Person Rescued From Pedestrian Bridge In Greensburg
Tuesday afternoon, emergency personnel responded to a report of a person in danger of falling from the walking bridge in Greensburg. Two officers arrived on-scene and observed a female juvenile suspended over the side of the bridge who was being held by family members to prevent her from falling. Officers were able to climb barriers from each end of the bridge and pull the girl back to safety. Details of circumstances leading to the situation are not included in a preliminary report.

New Kentucky State Police Post Commander In Columbia
There is a new Post Commander at Kentucky State Police Post 15 in Columbia. Public Affairs Officer Jonathan Houk says 22-year-KSP veteran Jennifer Sandlin has been appointed to lead state police operations in the 11 counties served by post 15. A native of Perry County, she has spent her career at Post 9 in Pikeville and Post 13 in Hazard, having served each as post commander during the past nine years. Post Commander Jennifer Sandlin is a decorated trooper. She has previously been honored with The Citation of Bravery in 2011, the Service Achievement Award in 2023 and several awards from the Kentucky Women’s Law Enforcement Network, including the Award for Exceptional Valor in 2009, the Award for Leadership in 2012 and the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022.

Weekend Domestic Incident Results In Attempted Murder-Suicide
Authorities in Hardin County are investigating an attempted murder-suicide over the weekend. Sheriff's deputies responded to a shooting Sunday along Hayden School Road during a husband-wife domestic incident. A department spokesperson said the wife parked next to her husband to pick up their son. The husband fired shots, hitting the woman in the shoulder. She returned to her mother's home and called police. When officers arrived at her husband's location, he shot and killed himself. The child was not physically injured during the incident.

Wanted Man Located And Arrested
A wanted suspect has been arrested by Glasgow Police. Officers responded to a home on Bowen Avenue where 20-year-old Abram Clover was found in possession of methamphetamine and a syringe. Clover was taken into custody and booked at Barren County Detention Center on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine and was served two active warrants.

Driver Charged With DUI After Leaving Roadway And Hitting Building
An Edmonson County woman is charged in a weekend crash in Sweeden. Police responded to the intersection of KY 259 and Old Kyrock Road Saturday night where an SUV driven by 55-year-old Lorrie Skaggs of Lindseyville crashed into the Lane's Store building. Skaggs was southbound on KY 259 and exited the left side of the road, nearly striking homes before hitting the porch column of the store building. The vehicle came to rest several yards away in an adjacent yard. Lorrie Skaggs was taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence.

Woman Indicted In Fatal Wreck
An Edmonton woman has been indicted in Barren County in relation to a car crash that happened nearly three years ago. Charges against 47-year-old Heather Slater include reckless homicide, two counts of second-degree assault and first-degree wanton endangerment. The November 2022 wreck on Burkesville Road resulted in the death of 62-year-old Carrie Selner of Edmonton. She was a passenger in Slater's van when it crossed the centerline and struck two vehicles according to a Kentucky State Police report. Selner was pronounced deceased at the scene. Others involved in the incident were injured. However, none of those injuries were life-threatening.

Man Accused Of Rape In Case Involving Teen
A man from Edmonton is charged with rape in a case involving a minor. State police were asked to investigate last Thursday after a medical professional reported a teen saying she had been raped by a 20-year-old man, identified as Tristan Prophet. It is alleged that he forced the girl to have sexual relations and told her that if she told anyone else, she would be in trouble. A police report indicates that during an interview, Prophet admitted to sexual relations with the girl, but he says she approached him. Prophet is currently charged with first-degree rape and he remains jailed at Barren County Detention Center. His bond is currently listed at $350,000 with an initial court appearance scheduled for this Wednesday.

Local Musician And Banjo Maker Dies
Bluegrass musician and local banjo maker Arthur Hatfield passed away Thursday. The Barren County native and owner of Hatfield Banjos had been in declining health recently. In January, his banjo shop was destroyed by fire. A fundraising effort was organized to help him rebuild. Arrangements for Arthur Hatfield will be announced by A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home of Glasgow.

Hart County Board Begins Replacement Process for Resigned Chairperson
With the resignation of Chairman Tyler Holthouser, the Hart County Board of Education has 60 days to fill the Division 5 seat. Holthouser represented Cub Run, encompassing the west-central portion of the county. The replacement process requires valid applicants. The board has published an official record of notice today, seeking applications for the appointment. Interested persons can obtain an application from the Hart County Board of Education Office at 25 Quality Street in Munfordville or by visiting the hart.kyschools.us website. For reference of the Division 5 area, a boundary map can also be found on the website. Hart County Schools Superintendent Bow Chenoweth says applications are due at the board office by 4pm Thursday, August 21st. The board may then choose to interview any applicants and act on an appointment. Chenoweth says if the board cannot come to a decision within the 60-day window, the state education commissioner is obligated to make an appointment. Once appointed, the incoming Division 5 member will serve on the Hart County Board of Education until a special ballot election in November of 2026. After the new member is seated, the board will have to elect a new chairperson, and (if needed) a vice chairperson in the event the current vice chairperson is selected. Hart County Ag leader Reappointed To State Board
A Hart County agribusiness leader is being reappointed by Commissioner of Agriculture Jonathan Shell to represent Kentucky Farm Bureau on the Kentucky Agricultural Development Board. Fritz Giesecke, who has been farming and doing business in the Uno and Wigwam Communities for decades will serve on the board through July of 2029. The Kentucky Agricultural Development Board provide grants and incentives to help farmers and agribusinesses innovate and grow. Both boards meet monthly to review and approve loan and grant applications.

Wingfield Church Road Bridge Open Under Reduced Weight Limit
The KY 1749 Wingfield Church Road bridge over Little Beaverdam Creek in Edmonson County has reopened with reduced weight limit of three tons. The reduced weight limit on the bridge is expected to be in place for about a month while the repair process is completed. The bridge closed on July 11th as a precaution due to a structural issue. The repair process began several days later. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 3 Office in Bowling Green will notify media and the general public when work is fully complete and the reduced bridge weight limit is removed.

Upton Man Dies In Motorcycle Crash
An Upton man died in a motorcycle wreck Monday night on Western Kentucky Parkway. The Hardin County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene around 9pm near the Grayson County Line. Preliminary investigation indicates a 2024 Indian, operated by 57-year-old John Barnes, was headed east in rainy conditions and lost control. The motorcycle crossed the median and entered the westbound lane before striking a semi. Barnes was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the semi was not injured.

Man Arrested A Day After Leaving The Scene Of A Wreck
A man who left the scene of a wreck over the weekend was arrested Monday. Units with the Barren County Sheriff’s Office were notified that 19-year-old Barry Sexton was walking along US 31E south of Glasgow. After being detained, Sexton admitted to being the driver involved in the Sunday wreck. He and a female passenger had been drinking at Rural King before driving in the rain and hitting a tree along Matthews Mill Road. Sexton stated he attempted to get help by knocking on a door at a nearby residence but became scared and fled. The female passenger was extricated from the vehicle and taken to T J Samson Community Hospital before being flown to TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville. An incident report says Barry Sexton was taken to the Hospital for medical clearance and then booked at Barren County Detention Center.

Scammer Attempts Getting More Detailed
Scammer attempts continue becoming more detailed and audacious. Glasgow Police is receiving complaints that an individual is generating calls claiming to be Major Terry Flat and providing the officer's badge number. Accounts of the imposter include claims the call recipient has missed jury duty and/or has violations for failure to appear and contempt of court. The imposter is also claiming a summons has been delivered and signed for. The scammer closes with a solicitation to accept a fine payment. A release from Glasgow Police cautions citizens against providing information to anyone making such calls and urges reporting scam caller activity to law enforcement.

Bank Robbery Suspect Captured
An arrest has been made in connection to a Friday bank robbery in Campbellsville. The incident happened around 9am Eastern at Citizens Bank on Main Street. Police received a call detailing a male subject, identified as 53-year-old David Razor Cox, who entered the bank and demanded money. Cox was able to flee from the bank with an undetermined amount of cash, prompting Campbellsville Police to ask for public assistance in finding him. Midday Saturday, Cox's arrest was announced by the department. He is booked at Taylor County Detention Center and is charged with a second-degree robbery, fleeing or evading police and second-degree tampering with physical evidence. His bond is currently listed at a quarter-million dollars cash.

June County-By-County Unemployment Numbers Released
Unemployment in Hart County rose slightly from May to June, but comes in nearly one percent lower than a year ago. According to figures released Thursday by the Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet, the county's June unemployment rate is 4.8% up from 4.3% in May. In June 2024, Hart County's Unemployment Rate was 5.7%. The same trend for a slight monthly increase with a annual comparison decrease is observed in neighboring counties, as well. Metcalfe and LaRue June rates are the same as Hart County at 4.8%, while Hardin County's rate is 5.1%, Barren County is at 5.2% and Green County is at 5.5%. Edmonson and Grayson are the highest of neighboring counties at 6% unemployment. Across the commonwealth, Oldham, Shelby and Woodford counties have the lowest number at 4%, while Martin County has the highest number at 9.5%. The statewide rate is 4.9% while the national rate is 4.4% unemployment.

Man Dies After Being Stung By Bees
A man from Grayson County died this week after multiple bee stings. Emergency responders were dispatched Tuesday evening to a location near Clarkson. Fire department members from Wax arrived and performed CPR on 70-year-old Floyd Milliner before EMS arrived and transported him to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center. Milliner was transferred to University of Louisville Hospital where he passed away early Wednesday. A funeral service for Floyd Milliner will be held Tuesday at Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church in Clarkson. Arrangements are under the direction of Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield.

Auto Theft Rising, AAA Gives Recommendations
Vehicle owners are being urged to make sure and guard against vehicle thefts this summer. A release from AAA says auto related crimes tend to increase with temperatures. A vehicle is stolen in the US every 37 seconds and vehicle theft costs Americans more than $8 billion annually. AAA says even if your vehicle isn’t stolen, it’s still a problem for everyone because auto related crime causes insurance rates to go up across the board. They say thieves are also getting more sophisticated, using technology to bypass keyless entry systems or launch relay attacks to gain access and steal vehicles. Tips include always locking your vehicle - even at home, never leave keys or valuables inside, park in well-lit, high-traffic areas, use steering wheel locks, alarms, or GPS tracking devices, turn front wheels sharply to either left or right and engage the parking brake. AAA also recommends checking with your insurance provider to make sure your policy includes comprehensive coverage, as many basic liability policies do not cover theft.

Lakes Still Affected By Spring Flooding
Area lake challenges continue even here in mid-summer, following record flooding from this spring. Nolin Lake State Park remains closed until further notice, with only the boat ramp open. Corps of Engineer campground sites on Nolin finished cleanup and repairs, reopening earlier this month. Corps boat ramps on Nolin are all open. At Barren River Lake, the last of closed Corps of Engineers campground sites also opened earlier this month, though the state park beach and other beach locations remain closed. The lake remains a few feet above summer pool, but there is hope of getting the Quarry Road Beach open within the next couple of weeks, according to a park ranger spokesperson. Other beaches on Barren River Lake, though, are in doubt for this season.

Fire Damages Residence In Big Clifty
Clarkson, East Grayson and Leitchfield Fire Departments responded to a mobile home fire early Tuesday morning. Firefighters arrived on-scene just after 2am along Langley Drive in Big Clifty, where smoke was visible from the front door and a window. Crews battled dense fog en route and had to contend with a large amount of contents within the structure to extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported, but the mobile home received extensive fire and smoke damage. Firefighters were on-scene for about two-and-a-half hours.

Summer Utility Bill Assistance Program Begins Next Week
With sweltering heat in the forecast, low income families in need of assistance to pay summer utility bills for cooling can soon apply for the LIHEAP Summer Subsidy. Enrollment begins July 28th at Community Action of Southern Kentucky Offices around the region. The program runs through September 12th or until funds are depleted. Qualified applications are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Benefits are paid directly to the household’s electric provider. Man Charged In Sexual Abuse Case Involving Two Victims Under The Age Of 12
A man from Hardyville was jailed Thursday in a sexual abuse case. Kentucky State Police was dispatched to follow-up on a complaint against 40-year-old Daymon Horton, Jr., who is accused of inappropriate physical contact with two children under the age of 12. A citation narrative indicates he was interviewed and admitted to the alleged conduct. Daymon Horton, Jr. is booked at Hart County Jail with bond listed at $9,500. He is scheduled to appear in court Monday, July 28th.

Teen Dies After Crash On Wet Roadway
An Edmonson County teen died last week following a crash in Grayson County. A pickup spun out of control along KY 54 around 3pm Tuesday and exited the wet road before entering a ditch line and impacting a concrete culvert. An incident report says 16-year-old Eli Meredith and another male were both ejected. Eli Meredith passed away Wednesday afternoon at University of Louisville Hospital. He was an incoming Junior at Edmonson County High School. A public statement from Edmonson County Schools Superintendent Brian Alexander was issued over the weekend, sharing condolences to family and friends along with offering support for his fellow students.

Horse Cave Bypass Set To Open
If all goes according to plan today (Thursday, July 17th), final items for signage and striping will be complete and the new Horse Cave Bypass will open to traffic on Friday. Construction began in early 2024 after nearly a decade of planning by both local and state officials. The KY 218 to US 31W southwestern Horse Cave connector provides better access to and from Interstate 65 and industrial facilities, reduces the potential for railroad crossing collisions, and reduces costly wear and tear on existing streets which were not originally designed to handle such traffic movements. Scotty’s Contracting was awarded the $8.85 million construction contract. The original completion date was June 30th, but a couple of minor KYTC change orders along the project have allowed them time into mid-to-late July. The new road is designated KY 3553. Motorists are cautioned to expect new traffic movements on the KY 218 and US 31W ends of the bypass and anticipate vehicles making turns onto and from the new road. There are no new traffic signals being installed with the project. After the roadway opens, there will still be some construction activity in the general vicinity as crews finish up punch-list items.

Man Arrested In Glasgow On Federal Warrant And Additional Drug Charges
Sunday afternoon officers with the Barren River Drug Task Force and the Glasgow Police Department stopped David “Poppy” Franklin at a store on Lexington Drive to serve a federal arrest warrant. Detectives notice an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle produced two bags of marijuana and cash. A search warrant was issued for Franklin’s residence, resulting in the discovery of a large quantity of cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana, along with pills and currency. Poppy Franklin was transported to Warren County Region Jail and booked on the federal warrant for various drug trafficking offences. He is additionally charged in connection to findings by the drug task force. Additional charges against Franklin are expected.

Missing Child From The Cub Run Area Found Deceased
The child who was the subject of Tuesday morning's emergency alert was found deceased. Around 8:30, authorities issued the IAN alert for the 5-year-old from the Cub Run area. About an hour later, Kentucky State Police confirmed the tragic announcement. The boy with autism was seen walking away from his home around 7am. Few other details have been officially released. Authorities we spoke with mid-day Tuesday said no foul play is involved.

Green River Valley Water Welcomes New Customers
As announced in early June, Green River Valley water has assumed a portion of customers from Edmonson County Water District. A release from Edmonson County last month said about 5,000 customers would be transferred to Green River and Grayson County Water Districts. Billing changeovers happened earlier this month. Green River Valley Water District is hosting an informational meeting beginning at 5:30pm next Tuesday, July 22nd at Cub Run Elementary School. The meeting serves as a welcome to new customers who have been shifted from Edmonson County Water and will feature information regarding billing and a question and answer session. Food will be provided at the event.

Hart County Fiscal Court Recap
Hart County Fiscal Court met Tuesday. During the meeting, Hart County was recognized by the National Weather Service as a "Storm Ready" county. Jailer Israel Bergenson stated there are 127 inmates currently being held in the facility. Sheriff Jeff Wilson presented the court with details on special purpose vehicles and announced the department's surplus auction for this Saturday afternoon in the sheriff's department parking lot. A bid from Scotty's Construction was approved for rubber modified asphalt. The public health tax for the Hart County Health Department was approved. The court announced an application for flex funds from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet for work on Robbin Lane, Halltown Road and Rocky Hill Road. The court approved a first reading to change E. Possum Hollow Road to JW Wilkerson Road. A lease was approved with the Hart County Fair Association. The court hired two part-time employees for the road department and approved a salary adjustment for Shane Butler. The next meeting of Hart County Fiscal Court is set for Tuesday, August 12th.

Missing Child From The Cub Run Area Found Deceased
The child who was the subject of Tuesday morning's emergency alert has been found deceased. Around 8:30, authorities issued an IAN alert for the 5-year-old from the Cub Run area. About an hour later, Kentucky State Police confirmed the tragic announcement. The boy with autism was seen walking away from his home around 7am. Few other details have been officially released. Authorities we spoke with mid-day Tuesday said no foul play is suspected at this time.

Area City Council Meeting Briefs
Munfordville City Council was in session Monday afternoon for their regularly scheduled July meeting, which featured a relatively light agenda. A second reading passed to revise charges and fees for the use of city water and sewer services. The council also agreed to purchase a replacement excavator. Routine business included departmental reports from fire, police, water, tourism, code enforcement, cemetery and sports complex. Horse Cave City Council met Monday evening, also featuring a light agenda. The council voted to accept a first reading to amend the recently completed fiscal year budget to reflect actual income and expenses for 2024-2025. Departmental reports were given by police, fire and public works before adjournment.

Man Arrested After Becoming Stuck In Construction Zone
A Cave City man is accused of driving drunk after wrecking his car in a Leitchfield construction zone. Work is underway to build a roundabout at the intersection of the Thomason Byway and Elizabethtown Road (US 62) near Walmart. Leitchfield Police responded to the intersection just after 11pm Friday where they say 40-year-old Darrell Sturgeon ran over concrete curbing the US 62 westbound approach island of the roundabout. His Chevy Malibu became stuck while trying to get out of the island. Sturgeon was booked at Grayson County Detention Center on a charge of driving under the influence. Earlier last week, officials with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet noted the need for drivers to use additional caution while traveling through the intersection as the concrete pouring phase of construction took place. Their traffic advisory specifically called attention to curbing and uneven pavement while emphasizing the importance of motorists staying in their lane space.

Kentucky State Police Update Crash Investigation
A Kentucky State Police report says a juvenile involved in a late May crash on I-65 in Hart County died July 5th. The wreck happened May 30th just before 7pm near the southbound Hart County Rest Area between Horse Cave and Munfordville. Preliminary investigation indicates a 2014 Ford Focus, driven by 23-year-old Dru Smith of Glasgow was parked along-side the roadway. A 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander, driven by 31-year-old Cory Bowles, also of Glasgow, veered off the roadway, colliding with the parked vehicle. Bowles was transported to T. J. Samson Community Hospital along with Mindy Bowles. Mrs. Bowles was later air lifted University of Louisville Hospital. In addition, a male juvenile passenger in the Bowles vehicle was also taken to T. J. Samson Community Hospital and a female juvenile passenger was airlifted to Norton Children’s Hospital. The driver of the parked vehicle was also injured and was airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital. The female juvenile passed away at Norton Children’s Hospital weekend before last. As a result of investigating the crash, police charged Cory Bowles with two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and fourth degree assault. The state police preliminary report stops short of indicating circumstances warranting charges being brought against Bowles. Investigation of the incident is ongoing.

Identity Of Motorcycle Crash Victim Released By Kentucky State Police
Over the weekend, Kentucky State Police officially released the name of the young man who died in a wreck just south of Glasgow on US 31E Friday afternoon. The victim, identified as 19-year-old Zachary Raney, was operating a 2008 Yamaha motorcycle southbound and crossed the centerline, into the path of a northbound 2020 Freightliner semi, driven by 53-year-old Daniel Vega of Louisville. Raney was pronounced deceased at the scene. The incident happened just before 3pm between Windy Hill Road and Finney Road. Raney was an EMT with Barren-Metcalfe EMS and was also a volunteer with Haywood Fire Department.

Child Flown To Louisville After Being Backed Over
A small child was hit by a vehicle in Hart County Wednesday evening. Emergency responders were called to a residence on KY 88 just west of Munfordville. Kentucky State Police responded to media inquiries stating the child, who is approximately 18-moths-old, was backed over and transported by helicopter to Louisville for treatment. No other details have been officially confirmed.

Man Who Called To Report A Reckless Driver Arrested For Harassment
A man who called police to report a reckless driver is facing charges. A report says 37-year-old Daniel Hogan of Munfordville called dispatch Monday while traveling north on I-65 in northern Barren County. When law enforcement located the reported vehicle, they made contact with a female driver who said Hogan had been following her. She claims he will not leave her alone and has been harassing her. After further investigation, Kentucky State Police Troopers arrived at Daniel Hogan’s residence, where he was taken into custody. He was booked at Hart County Jail on a charge of harassing communications. He is no longer listed as an inmate.

Two Face Drug Charges Following Arrest In Glasgow
Two people face drug charges after being arrested in Glasgow early Wednesday. Police observed 31-year-old Logan Matthews and 22-year-old Miranda Holbrook along Samson Street. Further investigation led to the discovery of suspected synthetic marijuana in a bag officers say Matthews was holding before jumping over a retaining wall. Both were taken into custody and booked at Barren County Detention Center. Holbrook is charged with possession of synthetic drugs. Matthews is charged with trafficking in synthetic drugs and fourth-degree assault, domestic violence with minor injury.

Man Charged After Sexual Encounters With His Niece
Police have made an arrest in a Barren County sexual abuse investigation. A Barren County Sheriff's Department citation says 32-year-old Kyle Isaac Ankney was taken into custody Wednesday on charges of first-degree rape of a victim under 12, first-degree sodomy of a victim under 12 and incest. An investigation began June 26th when deputies followed up on a sexual abuse complaint at Ankney's residence on Winn School Road just south of Haywood. An 11-year-old female provided accounts of sexual interactions with her uncle over an approximate five-month period. Investigators questioned Ankney last week in Allen County. He was booked Wednesday of this week at Barren County Detention Center and agreed to speak with an investigator, admitting to at least eight sexual encounters with the girl. He appears in court today.

Police say a man intentionally started a fire at a Glasgow residence
Friday by setting off fireworks inside. A report from Glasgow Police identifies
19-year-old Shawn Eric Green, Jr. of Bowling Green as a subject involved in a
verbal altercation at the home at Village Circle. Before officers arrived, Green
left the residence and was found in Bowling Green by Kentucky State Police. He
was taken into custody and booked at Barren County Detention Center on charges
of arson and wanton endangerment. His bond is now set at $15,000 and he appears
in court July 14th.

Fair Attendance Announced
Around 8,000 attended the 2025 Hart County Fair last week. The number was
provided by fair officials on Monday. The fair concluded with a dry -- but warm
-- week. This was the first in several years that no events were canceled due to
weather. Fair officials say it was a great week and they appreciate the support
shown by our community.

Student Contest To Design New Kentucky Ag Plate
The Kentucky Department of Agriculture (KDA) is launching a new “Friends of Kentucky Agriculture” specialty license plate, and they want Kentucky 4-H and FFA members to design it. The contest is an opportunity for students to showcase creativity and support agriculture in Kentucky. The winning design will appear on license plates statewide and help fund state FFA, 4-H and Kentucky Proud programs. The student with the winning design gets a $500 award. The contest runs through September 5th and a winner will be announced by October 1st. The contest is open to all active 4-H and FFA members. Get details at kyagr.com/agfriends. Police Continue Looking For Missing Glasgow Man
Glasgow Police is needing help in locating Kirby Read. The young man is described as 6 feet tall, weighing 150 pounds. He is a thin-build with curly, brown hair in a Mohawk cut with a beard. Anyone with information is asked to contact Glasgow Police Department at 270-651-6165. Relatives say he is a special needs individual and they believe he may be attempting to travel and meet online friends in Tennessee or California, possibly by bus.

Man On The Run For Over Two Years Arrested
A man who has avoided an arrest warrant for more than two years has been located. Hodgenville Police say 58-year-old Crispin Paris Perez was taken into custody last Wednesday evening at a residence in Buffalo. Perez is wanted for over $23,000 in unpaid child support. He remains jailed at LaRue County Detention Center on a felony charge of flagrant non-support, with no bond currently listed.

Additional Charges For Man Arrested After Pursuit In Glasgow
Additional information and clarification has been released regarding a Monday pursuit in Glasgow. Earlier this week, a report on the arrest of 43-year-old George Montreze Middlebrooks included a number of traffic and vehicle related offences. He also has outstanding warrants from Georgia. In the earlier report, his address was listed as Georgia, but he is currently living with a girlfriend in Glasgow. A report issued Wednesday through the Barren River Drug Task Force details additional charges. Following the vehicle and foot pursuit on Monday, a search warrant was issued for his local residence, near the location where he was apprehended following the pursuit. Detectives recovered crystal methamphetamine, marijuana, cocaine, Ecstacy and prescription medications packaged in a manner consistent with trafficking. A large amount of cash was found and a firearm. Related charges have been added and more are expected. No bond is set. He appears in court today.

Eastview Foodmart Robbed At Gunpoint
Police in Hardin County are investigating a robbery at Eastview Foodmart. A report from the Hardin County Sheriff's Department says they were called after a suspect entered the business around 10:30 Monday night, displayed a firearm and demanded money. The suspect fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash. No injuries are reported. Detectives are reviewing surveillance video and following up on leads. They ask anyone with information on the incident to get in touch with the sheriff's department by calling 270-765-5133

Cave City Council Member Resigns
Cave City will have to fill a council seat following the immediate resignation of Brandon Wright. In his letter to the city, dated Friday, June 27th, he cites ongoing health concerns as a reason for stepping down. The council resignation is the third in as many years for Cave City. In what has been a recurring theme among some local city governments, Horse Cave and Munfordville have also been faced with replacing council members for various reasons over the past year. Cave City Council has the right to fill the council seat within 30 days. If the seat remains unfilled after that time, the governor names a replacement according to protocol.

Glasgow Police Arrest Georgia Man Following Pursuit
For the second time in three days, Glasgow Police engaged in a pursuit resulting in the arrest of a Georgia man. Monday, an officer attempted a traffic stop on vehicle driven by 43-year-old George Middlebrooks. He fled at a high rate of speed along North L. Roger Wells Boulevard before turning on several side streets. He came to a stop on Hudson Lane then attempted to run on foot. He was taken into custody on Lexington Drive. Charges include fleeing in a vehicle and on foot, reckless driving, disregarding traffic control devices, operating on a suspended or revoked license and wanton endangerment. He remains jailed at Barren County Detention Center. No bond is set. Middlebrooks appears in court on Thursday.

Woman Arrested After Intoxicated Altercation
Police responded to a welfare check in Glasgow Monday resulting in an arrest. Units were dispatched to a residence along Cedar Street where several children were located inside. A report says 31-year-old Susan Elizabeth Rippy of Glasgow and another female were involved in an altercation. Rippy was under the influence of alcohol and became combative with officers. She was booked at Barren County Detention Center on charges of assault of a police officer, endangering the welfare of a minor, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Her bond was listed at $3,000. She was released later that day. Susan Rippy is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday. Monday's incident is not the first time she has exhibited defiant behavior toward law enforcement. She was booked twice in early 2022 on charges that include disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, menacing and contempt of court.
