Listening Round The World To 991....
From Paris, France To South Carolina, To The Gulf Of Mexico To Edmonton.
--
Hello, My name is Jordan Dunkerson. I am Daniel Deleon's brother. I
am currently in Paris, France on a missions trip. I wish I could be
there to watch the biggest game of the year but God had other plans
for me. I will be listening via the internet at 2 am local time
here. Thank you 99.1 The Hoss for supporting the Hornets so I
am able to listen to the game all the way here on the other side of
the world. I would just like to wish my brother and the whole
Hornet team GOOD LUCK! GO HORNETS!
Thank You, Jordan Dunkerson
--
Hey this is Tyler Jessie down
here in South Carolina. Its nice to be able to hear the Hornets
down here lets go Hornets.
-- I am from Green County, I work off
shore in the Gulf of Mexico. I was off tonight and thanks to
991, my friend, Greg Arnett and myself got to listen to the football
game between Green and Metcalfe County by satellite live. I
just wanted to thank you for bringing a little bit of home to us out
here. We work two weeks at a time and this is a great station.
Thank You, Jeff Davis & Greg Arnett
-- Hey Hoss! Cayce Cole here -
listening from Hollywood, California. I love to stay in touch with
my hometown and Hornet football. Thanks for helping stay
connected!
-- I'm Keaton Jessie's mom,
Angela. We will be listening to the final game of the All A
tournament from his hospital room at TJ Samson. He would love to be
at the game tonight but his health wouldn't allow it. Please say
hello to him on the air. He would get a big kick out of it (he is 7
yrs old). Thanks, Angela Jessie

Winds of 100 miles per hour and a path of 350
yards wide... The dimensions of a EF-1 Tornado that the National Weather Service
says formed just outside of Park City on Thursday afternoon. The vortex
intermittently touched the ground along a three mile stretch in North-West
Barren County. No one was injured in the storms path, which also completely
destroyed a mobile home where residents were taking shelter inside. After seeing
the devastation, one family member said it was a miracle that no one was
harmed. It also serves as a lesson learned from experience not to stay in a
mobile home during a tornado warning. Both of our affiliated stations, WLOC and
WHSX were simulcasting at the time of the storm and warned residents in the
corners of Edmonson, Hart and Barren counties to prepare for severe weather
approximately 5 minutes before the tornado first touched down at 2:02 central
time.

I just wanted to say thanks for a great visit - and thanks for
putting the photo and the recording up on your website. My mom got
such a kick out of hearing that contest. I thought it was a fairly
priceless moment myself. Russell and I both really enjoyed
visiting you (and listening to the first couple minutes of The
Trader), and I hope all's well with you this Father's Day.

P.S. - the show with Billy Currington in Chicago was
one our favorite
gigs ever.

WHSX / WKNK has faced many challenges in
it's 16 year history... both internal and external in nature. Even
with all the changes in it's history, we hold dear the things people
rely on us for: Severe Weather Coverage, Community Events, MCHS Sports
and The Trader (among others). The station has always
participated in countless community events. In fall 2005, the
station management made a decision of committing to more detail and
attention of the events we cover. In doing so, other decisions were
forced... particularly, which events to cover. While some people may
complain about a perceived absence of "their radio station," fruits of our
efforts are solidified by accolades from organizations like the
Edmonton-Metcalfe County Chamber of Commerce, respected members of our local
government, Metcalfe County Public Schools, Metcalfe County Health Care,
American Legion, VFW and others. Even with public uncertainty and
questions about the future of Edmonton's only FCC Licensed Radio Station
from a year ago, WHSX Management and Staff have since proven that the
community has not been ignored nor neglected by it's radio station. As
a matter of fact, many events we helped to promote experienced record
attendance numbers and exceeded previous fund raising goals and results...
(chamber membership drive, blueberry festival, duck race and pumpkin
festival just to name a few). We want to be careful NOT to take credit
for the success of these events, but to point out that the community has not
been let down by it's radio station. We haven't caused any of these
events to falter, as some predicted. And, if we may say
so, our participation in these events is unique, new, informative as well as
entertaining... a major improvement over our previous promotion and
involvements of such events.
Still, we understand there are events that the
station has been involved with over the years that currently aren't
promoted. In some cases those events are not promoted because of
limitations of current resources and personnel. In some cases, those
who are in charge of such events have freely chosen (for whatever reason)
not to use WHSX as an avenue for promotion. As resources and
personnel permit, we welcome any organization to approach us about working
together in promotion.
Our community must remember that this radio
station is a business... a business that drastically changes day to
day because of technology and advertising strategy. Cost of technology
in our industry is extreme. It's a challenge to balance the business,
community service and technology aspects of radio. Business is
dictated by profit and loss. In order for us to continue to provide
community services, we must first be profitable as a business. Without
a successful business, there is no foundation for the station to operate on.
A note to the people who attempt to condemn the
station and what it is: You don't have a leg to stand on by implying
that Edmonton does not have a radio station anymore or that the station is
not involved anymore. Shame on those who attempt to bash any public
service we provide.
Those people should realize they are only putting down their own community. We do not expect everyone to find our brand of
radio appealing. That is an unrealistic expectation. We do
expect to be viewed as a part of the community, regardless of like or
dislike of our music and programming.
Simply put.. Thank You to everyone who voices encouragement and support. We often hear criticism. Most of the
time it is not constructive and we do not have the luxury of getting into an
argument with such critics. So, we are taking this small opportunity
to give ourselves a slap on the back. Everyone at WHSX Radio
appreciates the opportunity to do the things that have earned the Chamber's
recognition and looks forward to playing a vital role in 2007 events...
not only for the Chamber but for the entire Metcalfe and surrounding
communities. We have committed ourselves to excellence in areas of
communicating what we believe to be vital information and entertaining our
listeners and running a successful business.
