United Way of Southern Kentucky (UWSK) is currently holding a region wide food drive aptly titled “Feed the Need” in Allen, Barren, Butler, Hart, Logan, Simpson, and Warren counties that will end on March 17th. Companies, organizations, and groups in these counties can participate by holding internal food drives starting today and delivering those collected items to their county’s distribution location on March 16th. Volunteers are also needed to pass out flyers and collect donations at participating grocery stores March 16th (10am – 6pm) and March 17th (9am – 1pm) at select grocery stores in each county. Volunteers are also needed at most collection sites in each county to assist with sorting and counting donations. All donations will benefit food banks in the county in which the donations are collected. If you are interested in helping to “Feed the Need” by volunteering to run an internal food drive within your company, group, organization, school, or church, or at an in-store drive, sign up by logging onto the United Way of Southern Kentucky website at www.liveunitedtoday.com.

A community meeting addressing the current issues of addiction will be held Tuesday, February 27th, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Hart County Ag Center at Rowletts. The meeting will feature Hart County Deputy Sheriff Heather Childress with The Truth About Drugs in Hart County, also the Effects of Addiction on children and families will be presented by Rhonda Robertson. Ray Carcione, owner of Kentucky Chrome Works will present the Impact of Addiction on the Workforce. There will be representative from Kentucky Health and Alex Elswick, a UK Addiction Specialist will discuss Understanding Addiction. The St. Baldrick's Foundation is hosting their signature head-shaving events at The Historic State Theater on March 10th, where more than 100 people will shave their heads in solidarity with kids with cancer and raise money for lifesaving research. The event will be in tandem with the Elizabethtown Second Saturday events with contests, face painting, visits from local heroes, vendors and concessions and registration will begin at 3:00 p.m.
