The Bacon Creek Watershed Council, an award winning community group working on behalf of Bacon Creek for over a decade, and Kentucky Waterways Alliance recently received funding to sponsor agricultural Best Management Practices (BMPs) and septic system replacements for area residents. The Watershed Council is currently seeking applicants to participate in the watershed area northeast of Bonnieville that includes the communities of Hammonsville, Magnolia, and Upton. Qualifying residents in the Bacon Creek area will be able to improve their septic systems or farming practices at a greatly reduced cost and help clean up Bacon Creek at the same time! Glow for a Goal 5K Run/Walk will be Saturday, July 26th at 8:00 p.m. The course starts and finishes at the Barren County Football Field on Trojan Trail in Glasgow. Registration is $25, $20 for early registration until July 12 and 10% discounts for families of 4 or more and $15 for students through high school age. T-shirts will be given to all participants. Entry fee is non-refundable. Proceeds benefit the Barren County Soccer Program. Packets can be picked up on Friday, July 25th from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Glasgow-Barren County Soccer Complex.

Community Action of Southern Kentucky announces participation in the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program. Meals will be served at no separate charge to enrolled participants at the center. Participants eligible for free and/or reduced price meals must have a complete application with documentation of eligibility information. The Cave City Police Department, along with other area law enforcement, will participate in the annual Cram the Cruiser event to help collect school supplies for students in Caverna and Hart County Schools. The event will be Friday, August 1st, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Dollar General Store on Happy Valley Road in Cave City.
A Fundraiser Yard Sale will be held Friday and Saturday, August 1st and 2nd, at the church located between Knob Lick and Hiseville. Items include a quilt, jewelry, clothes and shoes. In case of rain, the yard sale will be inside the fellowship hall of the church.

Friends of Mammoth Cave, a group of concerned citizens and community leaders working with the National Park Service started the organization in order to preserve and protect Mammoth Cave National Park. At the same time, the Friends Organization hopes to enhance visitors' and family experiences for years to come. The organization works to fund important projects and initiatives many of which are beyond the financial capacity of the National Park Service. The Friends of Mammoth Cave National Park receives no annual government funding, relying instead upon the support of private citizens, foundations, and corporations.
