Hart County Civil War Days will be held September 10th thru 11th, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, in Munfordville. Friday's events will include: a historical exhibit, live music from the civil war era, Civil War fashion show and dance lessons. On Saturday, a pancake breakfast will be held from 6 to 10 a.m., parade at 10 a.m., historical tours, arts and crafts fair, living history camps, battle reenactment, childrens activity area, Tea at River Pointe 11 to 12:30, country ham dinner and the famous Blue-Grey ball at 7 p.m. On Sunday, enjoy the pre-church service music, Civil War era church service and battle reenactment. September 11th, 2010

The Munfordville Lions Club will hold it's Annual Civil War Days Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, September 11, 2010  at the Hart County High School Cafeteria from 6 AM to 10 AM.  Tickets will be available at the door for $5.00 each.  The Lions Club will also be collecting used eyeglasses, so please recycle your used eyeglasses with the Lions Club.  Your old eyeglasses can help somebody else see better! 

Hiseville Community Volunteer Fire Department and Modern Woodmen will host a car, truck and tractor show and Karaoke contest at Hiseville Elementary School.  Registration for vehicles will be 12 to 1:00 p.m., entry fee is $15.  Award presentations start at 2:00 p.m.  Karaoke contest entry fee $10, starting at 4:00 p.m.  Call 590-5588 or 576-5649 for more information. The Voices of Woodsonville will have "Power of Praise" as their quest on Saturday, September 11th at 6:00 p.m. at the Woodsonville Baptist Church.  Rev. K. T. Ford is the pastor.

The 30th annual Caverna Band Festival will be held Saturday, Sept. 11th at Caverna High School. Preliminary competition will begin at 3 p.m. with 9 bands participating including: Hart Co, Green Co, Monroe Co., Adair Co. and Eastern (Louisville). Finals competition begins at 7:15 p.m. The Caverna band will perform in exhibition at 9:30 followed by the awards ceremony at 10:00.

The descendants of the late C. C. Riddle and Ethel Groce Riddle will have a reunion on Sunday, Sept. 12th, at Branstetter Park, located near the junction of Hwy 90 and Hwy 163 near Summer Shade.  Bring a covered dish and old photos.

 

Temple Hill Baptist Church located on Long Hunter's Trail in Glasgow will have a singing featuring the Midstate Quartet from Tennessee on Sunday, September 12th at 5:00 p.m.

The Hart County Retired Teachers Association will be having it's September meeting on Tuesday, September 14th, at the fellowship hall of the Horse Cave Baptist Church beginning at 5:30 p.m. There will be a potluck meal. The guest for the evening will be the County winner for the AARP Grandparent essay contest for last year and Hart County State Representative Dottie Sims, who will speak concerning the State Legislation.

The Salvation  Army Hart County Service Unit will meet Thursday, September 16 for a potluck meal at 11AM at the home of Janet Schneider, 407 College St., Horse Cave. Please bring a covered dish (meat, drinks and bread provided); we'll discuss plans for bell ringing at the Horse Cave Heritage Festival.

Benefit Gospel Concert will be held at the Hodgenville Civic Center on Sunday, September 19th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Appearing will be Mike Esh, Ronnie Benningfield, and Charles Durham, Jim Kessler, Amy Loyall and Mark Ramsey, Glen Rice, Malerie Skaggs, and Camille Turner, Brighter Day, Ricky, Angelia, and Blake Whitlock, Charlotte Ramirez and  Wesley Meadowlarks, and the Sunrise Manor Rhythm Band.  A love offering will be taken and all proceeds to to purchase a digital projector and screen for the chapel at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home.

 

Revival services will be held Sunday, Sept. 19th thru Wednesday, Sept. 22nd, at New Birth Church of God, at Mt. Washington with Evangelist Paul Hodge, of Savannah GA.  Sunday services 10:30 am and 6:00 p.m., Monday thru Wednesday services will be at 7:00 p.m., special singing nightly.

 

September 22nd, 2010

Kentucky Repertory Theatre will be holding auditions for the upcoming play, A Christmas Story.  Seven children's parts need to be filled for Ralphie, Randy, Flick, Schwartz, Esther Jane Alberry, Helen Weathers and Scut Farkas.  The auditions will take place at the Theatre's rehearsal Hall on Main Street side Tuesday and Wednesday, September 22nd and 23rd from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  Interested young people should call the Theatre (270-786-1200 or 800-342-2177) to schedule an audition. They will need to arrive prepared to deliver a two-minute monologue and bring a photo of themselves that the Theatre can keep. Rehearsals for the young people selected will begin late in October. The play will run November 26th thru December 19th.

Free Bethel General Baptist Church will be holding a singing on Saturday, Sept. 25th, at 7:00 p.m. with singing by The Remnants.  Proceeds will go toward the church doors.

 

Benefit Auction for Hope Highbaugh will be held on Saturday, September 25th at the Bonnieville Elementary School at 5:00 p.m.  Steve and Hope Highbaugh lost their 15-year-old daughter, Alicia to cancer in 2005 and Hope is fighting breast cancer.

Kentucky Repertory Theatre will open the fall season on October 15, 2010, with Moonlight and Magnolias, by Charles Isherwood, a comedy based on events that occurred during the filming of Gone with the Wind.  The play will run October 15th thru October 30th.  For reservations, call 1-800-342-2177.

The Kentucky Railway Museum is a 501 C3 non-profit organization that strives to educate and inform the public of the era and importance of railroad history.  The organization will have their annual auction fundraiser on Friday, November 19th at Paroquet Springs Conference Center in Shepherdsville.  Donations in the form of an item or gift certificate for the auction are needed.  All donations are tax deductible.  You may mail donations to the Kentucky Railway Museum, P. The Hart County Volunteer Rescue Squad will be collecting funds to update and maintain equipment and provide services to our community.  Each family who makes at least a $20 contribution will receive one 8 x 10 family portrait.  The persons authorized to collect funds are Michael Watkins, Charlie Bowling, Marcus Booher, and Dave Cupp.  If you have any questions or would like more information, call  524-5791. 

 

A non-profit weight loss support group will be held in Munfordville.  Meetings will be based on a credible national organization's guidelines.  A walking club may be formed and will be optional.  Weigh-ins, according to the guidelines, are not part of the weekly meetings, this may be done at each member's convenience.  There will be no membership fees, just optional minimal donations for expenses.  No diets will be issued.  For more information, call Liz at 528-1860 or 524-5217

 

The Edmonton-Metcalfe Chamber of Commerce announces a new publication is available.  Collection of 1960 Metcalfe County Centennial Photos, a soft cover book, contains forty-seven 8 x 10 black and white photos made at the Metcalfe County Centennial Parade copied from the collection of Mrs. Pauline Coleman.  The book is now available at the Chamber Office for only $10.  Only 100 copies are available at this time so if anyone wishes to have a copy, you should purchase it ASAP.  The office cannot hold copies for anyone. 

 

NWS Peace Program, a non-profit and CSIET approved program, is seeking caring families in the area to host high school students from various countries for the 2010 school year.  Students are 15 to 18 years of age and will begin arriving in August to spend the upcoming five to ten months with a caring family while attending a local high school.  The students speak English and are interested and learning about our culture while teaching you about their own.  They have medical insurance and their own spending money to cover such things as clothing, school supplies, and entertainment.  Host families are not paid but may be able to claim a $50 per month charitable contribution on their income tax.  For more information call 1-866-846-3977 or visit www.nw-services.com

 

The home of Russell and Stephanie Nunn of Bonnieville was destroyed by fire early Wednesday, July 7th.  The family lost everything they had.  Efforts are being made to help the family as much as possible.  The family had no insurance.  Household items, appliances, furniture, and clothing are needed.  The clothing sizes needed are: Male adult, size medium shirt; pant size 34x32, and shoe size 11.  Female adult, medium top, pant size 8, and shoe size 8.  Female teen, medium top, pant size 8, and shoe size 8.  If you can assist in any way, please contact Dennis Amos at 528-1354, David Shepherd at 786-1668, and Michael Killebrew at 218-1339.

The food pantry will be open every 3rd Thursday of the month at the Munfordville Baptist Church from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.  Also the food pantry is open on the following Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon.

Quitting smoking is not easy, but with the right support you can do it.  The Cooper/Clayton method gives people the help they need to get past their cravings.  If you or someone you know is interested in quitting smoking, call the Kentucky Cancer Program at 270-842-0950 to enroll in these classes.  The classes are free, but require nicotine replacement therapy.  Nicotine replacement products will be available for the participant to purchase at a low discount price.  Nicotine patches will cost participants about $1.50 a day.

Fibromyalgia Support Group will have monthly sessions scheduled each 3rd Wednesday at 3pm at the T. J. The Family Medical Center of Hart County will be hosting Diabetes Education Classes on the fourth Wednesday of each month from 1pm until 3pm.  Diet and glucose meter education is provided by a registered dietician and an RN.  For details, contact 270-524-7231.  You do not have to be a patient at the Family Medical Center to attend.

 

Community Adult and Pediatric Heart Saver CPR, First Aid and Blood-borne Pathogen Training Classes remain available at T. J. Samson's Educational Resource Center in Glasgow.  These classes are specifically designed for, but not limited to, lay rescuers who are required to obtain a course completion card or credential that documents completion.  Pre-registration is required.  Anyone may call 270-651-4745 for information.  Individuals interested in Healthcare Provider CPR Classes may call the Education Department at T.
