October 17th & 18th is the Big Buffalo Crossing BBQ Cook-Off on the square in Munfordville.  For more information go to www.visitmunfordville.com.  Along with the 5th Annual Big Buffalo Crossing BBQ Cook-Off, comes the 3rd Annual Remembering Munfordville this Saturday. From 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. enjoy ham and biscuits, donuts and coffee at the Sego House, next to Charlie Williams Law Office, from 10:00 a.m. to noon, there will be Storytelling at Munfordville Presbyterian Church. From noon until 2:00 p.m., visit with friends and enjoy a slice of Mamie Faulker's pie at the Sego House and from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Storytelling at Munfordville Presbyterian Church where many people will gather to tell stories to celebrate the 3rd Annual Remembering Munfordville Day.

Bonnieville Baptist Church will hold a Fall Festival on Saturday, October 18th, at 5:00 p.m.  Everything is free. There will be a Bounce House, games and prizes for all kids, hay rides, trunk or treat, cake walk, lots of good food and the annual Chili Cook-off contest.  All chili must be prepared on-site at the church. The Glasgow-Barren County Chamber of Commerce announces that Christmas Parade applications will be available for pick-up in the Chamber office October 1st, or by download at the Chamber website, www.glasgowbarrenchamber.com.  The theme of the parade is “Paws for Christmas”. In keeping with the theme, the Grand Marshal for the 2014 Christmas Parade will be Barren River Animal Welfare Association (BRAWA).  This application, along with a $15 entry fee must be received by Friday, November 7, 2014; they may be submitted to the Glasgow Barren County Chamber of Commerce located at 118 E Public Square in downtown Glasgow. You may call the Chamber office at 651-3161 for further information. After Friday, November 7, an entry fee of $30 will be charged. Absolutely no applications will be accepted after Friday, November 14, 2014 at 4:30pm. Units that do not complete an application by this time cannot be in the Christmas Parade.


The Annual Clothes for Kids Fall Radio Auction will begin Monday, October 20th, at 9:00 a.m. on WLOC and wloconline.com.  Donations are needed and appreciated such as:  theme baskets, craft items, gift certificates, antiques, tools, toys and homemade baked goods.  Items may be dropped off at the WLOC radio station in Horse Cave and monetary donations can be mailed to:  WLOC Clothes for Kids, P. O. Box 98, Horse Cave, KY. 42749.  Clothes for Kids is a 501 C3 non-profit organization serving the needs of students in Hart County and Caverna Schools working through the 9 resource centers.

The Shop of Terror will be open every Friday and Saturday at dark and also Wednesday through Saturday the week of Halloween in Park City, at 24130 Louisville Road at the red light.  Admission is $5 per person and proceeds will go to the Billa Boys fund to pay funeral expenses and EMT Paramedic Hero Scholarship.

The Large Item Drop-Off in Horse Cave will be held Thursday through Saturday, October 16th through the 18th, at the City Maintenance Building from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., located behind the Main Street Cemetery.  Items may be placed in dumpsters at property such as: electronics, appliances, mowers and tillers with gas emptied, furniture, toys, metal and plastic.  Items not accepted: Building materials or roofing, paint, carpet, tires, yard waste or garbage. Marrowbone Baptist Church will hold Homecoming services on Sunday, October 19th, beginning at 10:30 a.m.  Special singers will be the Spirituals.  A BBQ meal will be provided by the church, bring a covered dish, meat and drinks will be provided. Lunch will start around 12 noon.

The Fall Free Large Item Drop-Off will be held during the week of October 20th - 25th, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Saturday, 8:00 a.m. til 12:00 noon. Community Action of Southern Kentucky will begin the "Subsidy" portion of the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) that provides heating assistance to eligible households on November 3rd, 2014. The significant cost of energy to heat homes leaves many households unable to fully meet heating bills or purchase sufficient bulk fuel to keep their families safe and warm. For a household to be eligible, basic criteria must be met.  Applications will be taken in alphabetic order based on the first letter of the head of household's last name at Community Action offices.  Applicants must bring the following: Most recent heating bill or verification from landlord that the heating expenses are included in rent, Social Security card or Permanent Resident Card for each member of the household and proof of household income for the preceding month.  Hart County residents may apply at 509 A. From the Abundance of the Hart Food pantry will be open every 3rd Thursday of the month at the Munfordville Baptist Church from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.  Also the food pantry is open on the following Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. You must meet the income eligibility guidelines and only receive commodities one time per month.
